About California Vision
California Vision is a bold, practical roadmap to a future where California becomes an independent nation—peacefully, legally, and deliberately. At its core, this project asks a simple but powerful question:
What if Californians had the freedom to build a country that truly reflects their values?
This isn’t about slogans or rebellion. It’s about realism. California Vision is built on research, policy design, and strategic planning. It charts a path through the legal, economic, political, and social questions that would arise in the event of independence—and shows how they can be addressed.
We’ve organized our work into three key phases:
1. Viability
Our California National Viability Brief lays out the core argument: California is not just capable of independence—it already functions at the level of a mid-sized nation. With over 39 million people, a $4 trillion economy, global industries, and world-class institutions, California meets every measure of national viability. The brief tackles critical issues like national defense, citizenship, treaty transitions, and economic stability.
2. Beyond Viability
Viability is just the beginning. In the next phase, Beyond Viability, we ask: if independence is possible, how do we make it meaningful? We explore how California could not only match the services it currently receives under U.S. governance, but improve them—offering universal healthcare, modern infrastructure, environmental restoration, and a government rooted in transparency and accountability.
3. The Vision
This final phase distills everything into a cohesive framework for the future. It reflects the values that drive this movement: self-determination, justice, sustainability, resilience, and opportunity for all. The California Vision shows what’s possible when a nation is designed intentionally—from the ground up—to serve its people and protect what matters most.
The three phases were developed by applying The California Vision Guiding Principles that serve as the foundation for our movement and the blueprint for an independent California. They represent our shared commitment to building a nation rooted in enduring values, dedicated to raising living standards for every Californian, and prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
These guiding principles unite three core frameworks—our values, our social commitments, and our resiliency strategy—that together shape the path forward for a free and independent California.
