The 2026 Ballot Initiative
A legal, peaceful, and democratic path toward independence.
In March 2025, the California Secretary of State approved a statewide ballot initiative for circulation that could reshape the future of California. If enough valid signatures are collected by July 22, 2025, the measure will appear on the November 2026 general election ballot.
This initiative does not declare independence—but it does take a critical step forward.
What the Initiative Does
If passed by voters in 2026, the initiative will:
✅ Place a question on the November 2028 ballot:
“Should California leave the United States and become a free and independent country?”
✅ Establish a voter threshold:
For the 2028 vote to be binding, two conditions must be met:
- At least 50% of registered voters must participate in the election
- At least 55% must vote “Yes” on the independence question
✅ Create a National Sovereignty and Independence Commission:
A publicly funded commission will be established to:
- Analyze the legal, economic, and political implications of independence
- Produce a comprehensive national viability report by 2028
- Provide Californians with the information needed to make an informed choice

This initiative ensures that any future step toward independence will be democratic, informed, and legal—reflecting the will of the people.

Our Position
At California Vision, we believe the people of California deserve the right to decide their own future—and to do so with clear facts, not fear. This initiative doesn’t make California independent. It ensures that if that choice is ever made, it will come from the people—and be backed by real planning, real policy, and real public debate.
This is the beginning of a legal, peaceful, and deliberate process.
